When most Brides decide to plan their own wedding they usually try to become familiar with the highest priorities of their event. Aspects such as choosing a delicious reception menu, buying the perfect wedding gown or selecting the best floral motif. However, one priority that seems to always slip the Bride’s mind is knowing how to hire the right wedding photographer. Your wedding photos is one of the most important pieces of the wedding planning puzzle. It’s only natural for your wedding memories to fade regardless of how flawless the ceremony was; but, with good wedding pictures you can easily remember every blissful moment. It is very important to understand what you should look for in a quality photographer. So, be sure to ask these important questions before you select your “Memory Keeper.”
Will you be taking the pictures?
Sometimes photography studios will have several photographers working as a group. Some studios will show clients a collection of sample wedding photos taken by a few different people. Be sure that the portfolio that you look at only includes pictures that YOUR photographer has taken. Before signing a contract you should speak directly with the photographer that will be working at your wedding.
What is your style of photography?
Some photographers have worked at dozens of weddings, so they may have an opinion on what shots look good and what don’t. Make sure the photographer that you choose knows exactly what you’re expecting. For example, tell them if you want to include more fomal posses or candid shots.Likewise, inquire on whether they have more experience with black and white or colored pictures. Each photographer is going to have their own skill set, so dig into their work experience and specialties to ensure you get what you want.
How many rolls of film do you use?
It might be obvious to ask your photographer to take as many pictures as possible so that you’ll have a wider selection to choose from; but keep in mind that more rolls of film always equal more money. Talk this and other photo expenses in detail before hiring any photographer. Sometimes freelance wedding photographers will make a deal with you if you allow them to add your shots into their portfolio.
Are you familiar with this area?
Try to find a photographer that is familiar with your wedding location and reception venue. The more familiar they are with your location the faster they’ll be able to setup their equipment and foresee where the best photo opportunities are. Also, hiring a photographer that has experience shooting your specific type of wedding ceremony (Jewish, Indian, etc.) will have a clearer understanding of when key moments are about to occur.
