When it comes to wedding gifts, a lot of people have no idea what to give the bride and groom. Most of the time we give whatever first pops into our head. Sadly, this train of thought is what causes every wedding couple to receive 10 toasters, 5 blenders, etc. So, for all the couples who don’t want to end up with a wallet full of gift cards start considering setting up a wedding registry. Wedding Registries are a great way to let your friends and family know what you want for your wedding without ever having to ask for it directly ( asking for a present in person is considered super tacky!). These days every major store has some type of wedding registry service available so you shouldn’t have a problem “asking/registering” for all the things you want. Weddings have evolved so much from the past and how wedding gifts are exchanged has now too been modernized. Here are some guidelines to get you started.
How to setup your Gift Registry.
Once you decide which store or stores you wish to register at, you’ll want to setup your registry as soon as possible. Being able to register for your gifts at the earliest time possible will allow more time for your guests to find all the unique items you’ve requested. To create a wedding registry you should first contact the customer service department of whatever store you choose. There usually is an employee specially assigned to help wedding couples get started on the registry process. All stores are different but basically the employee will walk you through the process of finding what you want in the store and adding it to your list. In addition, the employee will also go over the easiest way your guests can access your registry. Pay special attention to these directions because you’ll want to include the same information for your guests in their invitations.
Keep an open mind When deciding what to include on your wedding registry. You should add items to your list with a variety of price ranges so that your guests don’t feel obligated to spend a set amount. Some couples have even decided to make 2 separate wedding registries:
-A list for close family and friends that includes items that may be more expensive or personal to the bride and groom
-A list for the remaining guests of the wedding that includes all other gift types.
In addition to price, it is also recommended that the wedding couple be diverse in choosing where to register. Choosing a store available to all their guests is the best option. Setting up a wedding registry can prove pointless if it is done at a store that is only available to your local friends and family. An even better decision would be to register with a store that has several chains around the country and has a store available online.
Wedding registries are a great way to let your loved ones know what you hope to receive on your special day. Do your research and see if there are any stores in your area that give discounts to wedding couples that setup a registry at their location. As long as your list is considerate of your guests’ needs and you plan accordingly, a wedding registry can be one of your best wedding planning tools.
