Envision yourself surrounded by crystal blue skies and powder white sand, as you exchange your wedding vows with your loved one.  The water is swaying calmly while the sun adds warmth to the cloud of romance that your wedding ceremony has created.  There’s nothing that can craft this picturesque memory other than having your beach themed wedding in the Bahamas.

Beach Weddings
Creative and unique wedding couples are choosing to have beach weddings because they closely resemble their personalities.  Beach weddings are anything but ordinary and can be planned in hundreds of different ways.  Some couples choose to say “I do” in their bathing suits while others agree on more formal attire.  No matter what the motif, nothing can accentuate a wedding like the beautiful Bahamian ocean.

Legal Requirements
In order for you to get married in the Bahamas you must register for a Bahamian marriage license.  Marriage licenses can be obtained in the Bahamas after a 24-hour residency period and cost approximately $100 Us dollars.  The wedding couple must apply together and in person at the registry office.  Upon receiving the license the bride and groom have 90 days before their marriage license becomes invalid.  Be sure that you bring the necessary documents to complete the paperwork:

  • photo id
  • valid passports

  • divorce decree ( if this is not your first marriage )
  • Death certificate ( if you are a widow)
  • your Plane ticket used to arrive at the Bahamas
  • If under 18 years of age, a written parental consent.

Food and entertainment in The Bahamas
Having a beach wedding in the Bahamas should be no reason why you can’t have fantastic food and entertainment at your event.  Bahamian cuisine has a strong South American influence, so you’ll find that traditional dishes like curried goat, fried plantains, and conch fritters all share a common flavor.  To complete your Bahamian beach wedding the bride can choose to incorporate a delicious west Indian rum cake as her wedding dessert.  Rum cakes are more moist then traditional wedding cakes and can range from being strongly to slightly alcoholic in taste.
Junkanoo is the native music performed by Bahamians.  This style of entertainment involves choreographed dances and would make a fabulous addition to any wedding reception.

Beach Wedding Budget
The Bahamas is known to most as the wedding capitol of the world, which is why so many Bahamian locations offer special prices for wedding ceremonies.  Be sure to call different venues or work with a wedding planner to see what times of year offer the best deals.
